A business agreement among two kitchen-design experts -- a wine-cellar specialist and a home-storage connoisseur -- will offer consumers one-stop luxury shopping.
The showroom of Kitchen Designworks, a lavish maze of upscale kitchens, now has a 1,000-bottle wine cellar and a customized closet, said Marvin Daniel, president of Kitchen Designworks.
"We are excited to be able to bring our clients a one-stop custom-design experience," Daniel said. "We started this business with the goal of giving our clients a 'nowhere else' experience."
Daniel and his business partner, Brian Pilgrim, the vice president of operations for Kitchen Designworks, recently brought in two other partners.

Paul Koder is a wine consultant and chief executive officer of Wine Trend Inc., and Lloyd Robinson is a franchise owner of California Closets of Virginia and president and CEO of The Home Port Gallery.
The businesses share a customer base, and Pilgrim said the synthesis of their products in the Kitchen Designworks showroom seemed a logical progression.
The 5,200-square-foot showroom at 7157 Staples Mill Road now includes 17 fully decorated rooms, including kitchens, a bathroom, a study and the new closet and wine rooms.
Daniel and Pilgrim have seen a steady increase in sales since they began Kitchen Designworks in 1999. Their staff has grown from four to 11 people, and half of the company's business is outside the Richmond area.
They attribute their success to a focus on quality, not quantity. "It was never how many kitchens we sell; it was always how many wonderful kitchens we sell," Daniel said.
The kitchen and bath showroom, the centerpiece of the business, displays custom kitchen, bath and cabinetry design in full-size rooms, not partial displays, Pilgrim said.
The wine cellar occupies one room. A 1,000-bottle wine cellar, depending on the specifications and budget of the customer, costs from $17,000 to $100,000, not including construction costs.
If a customer is interested in purchasing a wine cellar, Koder will meet the person in the showroom and explain how his company tailors each wine cellar to the customer's request.
Koder also will host a number of wine-tasting and food-appreciation events in the fully functional kitchens at Kitchen Designworks to boost customers' appreciation of wine.
"Our clients enjoy the finer things in life," Koder said. "They are attracted to the wine lifestyle and are making wine a regular part of their lives. After all, enjoying wine is about so much more than just the wine."
The closet, which occupies another room, is a traditional walk-in closet that includes adjustable hanging and shelving sections, special shoe storage, a portable laundry hamper, full-length wardrobe doors, a dresser with a granite countertop, crown molding and recessed lighting.
California Closet's products have surged in popularity. In 2004 it had $204 million in annual sales, a 75 percent increase over a five-year period, according to the company's Web site.
"People who have wealth want beauty, form and function," Robinson said.
Joining with Kitchen Designworks is another way for California Closets of Virginia to grow its business, Robinson said.
The price of the closets depends on the customer's specifications, Robinson said.
Pilgrim said the new partnership will offer customers a picture of upscale home design.
"We want to set the standard for this area, and we're always trying to raise the bar," he said. "We're trying to offer the complete package."
Added Daniel: "We make sure that people leave here saying that they've never seen anything like this before."
Kitchen Designworks is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, call (804) 262-0006 or visit http://www.kitchen-designworks.com/
